Master thesis position for translational cancer research
Subject: Epigenetics; DNA and RNA based omics; Translational cancer research
Place of work: Department of Surgery (Anna Spiegel Forschungsgebäude), Medical University of Vienna
Starting date: 01.11.2017 or later, first round of interviews starting immediately.
Duration: 9+ (work) + 3 (writing and finishing) months
Topic: Analysis of epigenetic changes in colorectal and ovarian cancer, partly associated with chemotherapy resistance.
The candidate will prepare DNA from isolated and sorted cell nuclei (and RNA) for bisulfite sequencing and small or normal RNA sequencing and do immunohistochemical and immunofluorescence stainings on FFPE tumor tissues. Stained slides will be scanned (TissueFAXS) and quantitatively analyzed (CellProfiler Software). Furthermore, tumor material of patients (solid tumor tissues and ascites) will be processed and cell culture experiments performed.

- University/FH student in the field of molecular biology/biomedical sciences/biochemistry (with interest in bioinformatics)
- Careful and diligent
- High motivation; good communication and team player skills
- Experience in bioinformatics (Linux) is a plus
- German language is also a plus
Payment: according MUW scheme (Forschungsbeihilfe € 440 per month; 12 months)
